TIPS FOR SEARCH AND VIEWING
The photos are divided into Categories and subcategories based on the objects and events depicted on the image.
For instance, the category Nature presents close-ups and panoramas, birds and animals, skies
and seas ranging from Estonian marshlands to tropical rainforests.
Similarly, in the category People you will find portraits, scenes, nudes, etc, both
contemporary and vintage with motifs from all spheres of human experience.
All photos are also attributed with keywords describing the objects, people, settings and
mood of the images. When searching for an image by Keywords, use only the singular
form of the nouns (for example "cherry" instead of "cherries") and the participle form
of the verbs (for example "smiling" instead of "smile").
Concessions should be made and special attention paid to words that have more than one meaning
("palm" as a part of a body and "palm" as a tree; "turkey" as a bird and "Turkey" as a state).
It is advisable not to insert more than one word as most keywords are inserted singly - thus,
if searching by compound words does not give expected results, try again with a single word.
You may also search by the words included in Record Name (the title of the photo),
Caption (additional information about the objects and characters in the picture),
or the name of the Author by selecting the given field in the Complex Search. Similarly, you can vary
the number of the search results shown on the screen by selecting 6, 9 or 15 images per page.
Having pressed the "Search" button, the image(s) matching the search criteria will appear on
the screen in the form of thumbnails. Clicking on the selected image will enlarge the preview and
display the additional information linked to it, such as the author, image number, caption, keywords,
special instructions etc. By selecting the field "Add to My Lightbox" under the photo and pressing
the "Add this image to Lightbox" button, you can view the chosen images displayed separately on Your Lightbox.
All images are attributed with "Special Instructions" concerning the media in which they can be used
and other restrictions. For instance, "Advertising Free" denotes that the photo can be reproduced for
worldwide commercial distribution, as the persons or the owners of the property featured on the image
have given permission for the photo to be used. The instruction "Editorials Only" on the other hand
indicates that the use of the given image is restricted exclusively to editorial usage, the violation
of the restriction can lead to legal claims. Some images are attributed with restrictions concerning
the exclusivity of rights in different countries or industries, for instance, the instruction
"Excluding Estonia" denotes that somebody holds exclusive rights for the use of the picture in Estonia.
Thus, in order to avoid possible future disputes, the purchaser of the usage right must inform
the database of the exact purpose and media of the usage of the image.
